Synopsis from Goodreads
Who put superglue in Dad's hat? Was it really a ghost that made Mom tear out of the house? Matilda is a genius with idiot parents — and she's having a great time driving them crazy. But at school things are different. At school there's Miss Trunchbull, two hundred menacing pounds of kid-hating headmistress. Get rid of the Trunchbull and Matilda would be a hero. But that would take a superhuman genius, wouldn't it?
Roald Dahl was one of my favourite authors as a child and I can't believe I didn't get round to reading them all!! Matilda was a particular favourite about a child who was extremely clever. The reason I loved her so much was because she read and that's to this day what I love to do. Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey are fantastic contrasts and as always the good or the evil is in the name just to give the readers that little extra hint. Something taken from the very first children's novel, The Governess by Sarah Fielding. The brilliance of this novel comes from the powers which Matilda realises she has and why she is able to get her revenge on all the people who have hurt her. The morals in this book are particularly high and she doesn't just punish them for nasty things but illegal things. I would really love to read this book to my kids one day, heck I might even go and read it today!
